What should I do to prepare before my therapy session?

  • Be well hydrated.  Our body dependents on water for digestion, brain activity, and flushing out toxins, to name only a few of it's functions.  Massage therapy releases toxins so do your body a favor and help it metabolize those them by drinking plenty of water before and after your therapy session.
  • Shower, if possible, to remove excess body oils.  Do not apply lotions or oils post shower.
  • No food 1 hour before your therapy session is scheduled.
  • Come with an open mind and positive attitude. :)

What should I expect my first visit?

  • Arrive 15 minutes early for your first therapy session.  For future sessions arrive about 5-10 minutes early to report any changes and discuss specific goals.
  • You will fill out our initial intake paperwork.
  • Initial physical/structural assessment.
  • Discuss the assessment, therapy options and your short/long term goals.

What should I expect during the session?

  • You will undress to your comfort level.
  • You will be fully draped during the entire session.  Only the area being addressed will be undraped.
  • Your therapist will give specific instruction as needed during the session.
  • Your therapist will address specific areas you have requested as well as other areas that may affect the problem area.

What should I expect after the session?

  • Your session will end with take-home instruction (ie: muscle specific stretches, hydrotherapy) related to the type of therapy received.
  • Hydrate.  Your body will need it!  Drink plenty of water post any therapy session.  This assists the body in flushing out toxins and will decrease any post therapy soreness.
  • Many factors determine how a client feels post therapy.    Some may experience a euphoric feeling, relaxation,  or increased energy.  Some may feel hungry, sore and slothful.  Once the initial after affects of the session have subsided you may notice relief from pain, increased range of motion, increased cirulation and relief from stress.

What shouldn't I expect?

  • Don't expect your therapist to perform miracles.  If you've had a chronic problem for the last 10 years your therapist won't be able to "fix it" in a few hours.  Most problems are a work in progress and may take several sessions to correct and/or see significant improvement.  Your body will repair itself at the speed it needs too and everyone is different.
  • Don't expect your therapist to diagnose a medical concern.  We are not physicians.  We don't diagnose or prescribe.   We do, however, make recommendations, give referrals and offer suggestions.  Massage therapy is not a preplacement for seeking treatment/advice from a physician.
  • Don't expect your therapist to read your mind.  Always keep open communication with your therapists. It is your responsiblity to notify your therapist of any concerns, comfort levels, questions, changes in lifestyle, medical/health developments, etc.  We will make changes to your therapy sessions accordingly.
